Frequently
Asked Questions
Is
this eucalyptus mulch natural and organic?
Eucamulch is a completely natural sterilised organic
leaf mulch.
Where does it come
from?
Natural Eucamulch comes from the process of distilling eucalyptus
oil. The mulch is made from the leaves, twigs and suckers of
Eucalyptus Polybractes (Blue Mallee).
Will I get any
weed seed or bugs in the mulch?
Eucamulch is sterilised in steam for two hours which removes
tannins and the oil from the leaves. The sterilisation also kills
weed seeds and insects ensuring a pure, clean and organic leaf
mulch.
How
will it improve my garden?
Eucamulch can be applied at any time of the year providing the
natural beauty of a forest floor and the lovely bushland fragrance
of eucalyptus. It is a light material, yet heavy enough not to
be blown about in windy conditions. It will add charm and good
looks to every garden. Eucamulch should be spread to a depth
of between 30 and 70mm. This will keep roots cool, the soil damp
and moisture available during hot dry and windy weather. The
mulch will break down over a period of two to three years providing
a rich, friable and organic humus. Natural Eucamulch reduces
weeding and provides good air and water circulation around plants
which encourages better root growth.
How
should Eucamulch be applied?
Natural Eucamulch is easier to spread around plants when it is
damp and pliable. Simply hose or wet the wool bale a day or two
before application. Water the ground well before spreading. If
the soild is compacted, loosen the surface first to allow air
and water to penetrate. You will obtain much better weed control
if weeds are chipped before Eucamulch is applied.
Natural Eucamulch, like all mulches, should be
kept away fromthe base of plant stems to stop the development
of collar rot. This is particularly important with seedlings
and native plants. At the time of application, it is worthwhile
applying a light sprinkling of a nitrogenous fertiliser such
as blood and bone to avoid any possibility of an imbalance of
soil nutrients.
What
is the pH value of Eucamulch?
Natural Eucamulch ranges from a slightly acidic pH to neutral.
The range is from 5.8 to 6.5. Being slightly acidic, Natural
Eucamulch is idea for native gardens and is excellent around
Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Camellias.
How
is Eucamulch delivered?
Natural Eucamulch is tightly packed in wool bales to make handling
easier and cleaner. Each wool bale contains one cubic metre of
Eucamulch which is enough to cover an area of 10 to 20 square
metres.
The
wool bales have a nett weight of between 80 and 100 kilograms.
The dimensions are 1.25m x 0.75m x 0.75m.
